Cuban-born, Carmen Gutiérrez-Bolger’s family immigrated to southern Florida from Cuba when she was 5 years old. Her art draws on her experience living between two worlds. After a career in printing and the graphic arts, in 2000 she began working as a full-time artist. “By using brilliant color and abstract shapes, I am learning to talk about displacement, duality, perspective, time, and space.” Carmen is proud to be one of twelve Latino/a artists featured in the book titled: “Latin Art in Minnesota: Conversations and What’s Next” published in 2023 by Afton Press. Gutiérrez-Bolger has participated in numerous invitational and juried shows in the Twin Cities and nationally and has a long and deep connection to the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District and the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA.)
