Andrea Canter

Studio Number: 218
Primary Medium: Digital Photography

I've been drawn to photography (since I was 8) because it allows me to start with reality and challenge myself to transform that reality in some way. Street art-- deliberate as in murals, or incidental as in found objects or juxtapositions of color, shapes and textures-- has always captured my imagination, as has the natural world. Recently I have found similar inspiration in acrylics--abstract paintings and monotypes. My formal art education includes childhood classes at the Baltimore Museum of Art, one high school painting class, and recent workshops and classes through area art centers.  My photography and paintings have been included in individuals shows at the Garden Gallery of St. Barnabas Lutheran Church (Plymouth, MN) and the Black Dog (Lowertown St. Paul); and participation in group shows at Flow Art Space, Southern Theater (Altered Asthetics), Hallberg Center for the Arts (Wyoming, MN), A-Z Gallery, SHOW Gallery, and at Artistry and the Minnetonka and Hopkins Centers for the Arts.
